Denny Allen knew at the age of 11 he wanted to be the sax man in a band some day. By the time he was fourteen years old he was. He started his music career performing with a small combo live on the radio in the gym of Durrett High School on the Coca-Cola Hi-Fi Club hosted by DJ Paul Cowley from WKLO. Throughout the sixties his skills and abilities as a sax man grew quickly and he became a musician in demand performing with several local bands. Denny has performed in over twelve states as a road musician with The Johnny Greene Show and The Jeanne Lynn Show – adding to his talents, comedy routines and magic tricks. He has performed in rock ‘n roll shows and concerts before crowds of over forty thousand people; appearing on stage with Bo Diddley • Johnny Nash • The Staple Singers • Andy Kim • Kris Jensen • Paul Revere & the Raiders and The Spiral Starecase.
Denny is an accomplished studio musician in singing lead and background vocals. He has provided sax and flute solos on a variety of recordings which have included "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?" as recorded by Copper ‘n Brass at the famous Sun Records studio in Memphis, Tennessee. He has also performed studio work at the Oak Ridge Boys studio in Hendersonville, Tennessee. He has recorded two solo gospel music records and a Christmas album "Wise Men Still Seek Him" featuring Denny and his sax. He continues to do recording session work in studios in and around the Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky area.
Denny is featured in the book "Louisville’s Own" (a history of recorded music in the Louisville area from 1953 thru 1983), for his years as a member of The Ultra-Tones. He wrote and recorded "Slap Sax" and performed solo work on "One Broken Heart". Some members of The Ultra-Tones including Denny, went on to form the group Tymes Unlimited – now known as The Tymes Band. Denny is currently an active member of the Greater Cincinnati music scene as a sax man, flutist, keyboard player and singer, performing with various groups.
